Update on Surana Solar and Next Stock

Dear Readers,

We have seen several comments on blog regarding Surana Solar and future outlook of solar sector. Need to read the below details and information given under links to know the matter in depth.

1) Stock was suggested on 1 Jan 2016 at Rs 23 based on huge development in solar sector with ambitious target of 100 GW which will make  India one of the largest Green Energy producers in the world.

http://pib.nic.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?relid=122567

2) Government has started the solar mission with full support to domestic manufacturers with sufficient budget and reservation.

http://mnre.gov.in/file-manager/UserFiles/gcrt-cfa-notification-04-03-2016.pdf

3) Issue started in Feb 2106  when India lost an appeal at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against a decision that found the country’s regulations that mandate use of local content for some solar power projects. Under the National Solar Mission, India has mandated that around 5% of the planned 100 GW installed solar power capacity use locally-manufactured modules and equipment.

http://www.greenpeace.org/india/en/Press/Greenpeace-Supports-Indias-decision-to-challenge-WTO-ruling-on-Indias-Solar-Mission/

4) US companies did not get any benefit from above objection because most of the solar plant developers opted for chinese solar product. Chinese companies were struggling due to slowdown since mid of 2015. They have quoted very low price for huge volume with very short delivery time.

http://www.saurenergy.com/solar-energy-articles/indian-solar-energy-market-analysis

5) Domestic solar component manufacturers are unable to compete on cost with chinese manufacturers. Indian solar manufacturers have filed a  petition with Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) calling for the introduction of anti-dumping (AD) measures on solar cells and modules produced in China, Malaysia and Taiwan.

https://www.pv-magazine.com/2017/06/06/breaking-indian-solar-companies-file-ad-petition-against-china/

The Stock corrected 10 -15% after the news that the Ministry of Finance has refused to approve a Rs 20,000 crore ($3.1 billion) relief package for solar cell and module manufacturers.

http://energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/renewable/finance-ministry-rejects-rs-20000-crore-plan-for-local-solar-equipment-firms/59279143

6) With current situation, it is very much possible to achieve the National Solar Mission for 100 GW power generation capacity by 2022. It has helped Indian solar mission to achieve the  set target on time at low cost. Solar Power cost fell down from Rs 6.5 per unit to Rs 2.5 per unit.

http://www.mnre.gov.in/

We can expect change in solar policy or financial support for domestic manufacturers in next 2 -3 years or  near to the completion of 50 - 60 GW installed solar capacity.

Our Strategy on Investment

Generally I used to reply on several comments as given below

" Need to stick with investment decision for 2-3 years unless change in fundamental of the company"

" It will give either good gain or good experience"

It means that we should give at least for 2-3 years to see the improvement in performance of any company.  It is also good hold a stock even with negative return because it will test and build our patience, gives good experience to control on emotions and to remind us for not repeating the same mistake again.

" Allocate upto  5 -10% only in stocks below 25 rupees and keep only one stock in portfolio"

" Buy stocks  within + / - 10 % from suggested price"

Even in any condition the recent fall in stock price of Surana Solar will not make any major impact on overall portfolio value and portfolio will able to give consistent return around 40 -50% per year along with loss of Surana Solar. So it should not be the any major cause of concern for our blog members.

But it gives different feeling when we look at comments posted on the blog.

1) It may be possible that investors have already got enough good experience to control their patience in last 18 months with Surana Solar.

2) They may have bought at higher price and given more than 10% allocation to Surana Solar.

Whatever may be the reason, we have to resolve the issue or concern raised by our blog members.

If above mentioned conditions are true than it is right time to swap Surana Solar with next stock. Next stock will be posted in the last week of July or first week of August. It is fundamentally very strong stock and able to give around 50 -100% return within one year and very good investment option for long term.

It should not be taken as sell call for Surana Solar and at the same time above details did not left any room for confusion. Now next update will be given for Surana Solar on 1 January 2019.

I unable to reply several emails due to lack of time. Hopefully I will respond it in coming weekends.

    1. Lasa will get listed within one month. It may list below 200 but it will trade above 250 within one year from listing.

Company already has all required certification for veterinary API business. Lasa has grown its business from 20 crores to 200 crores in last 5 years so they have enough experience and expertise to manage it without any issue.

  5. This much about courage and patience we can only learn from you. I did not have any courage when I started and it has taken one year to learn maybe 1% of what is your holding and mental strength; while you still keep us profitable in good stocks as we learn to hold for longer as well. Thank you.

  6. Mam just like our prime minister you have also never taken holiday and sleep even less than him, since inception of this blog and replied to all questions made by us. We are also well aware of your schedule and effort of you both behind suggested stock picks at AVG 36 days.
By this msg we all followers want you to not post on any repeated questions and reply it just as a return gift which would save a lot of time and space. We are well aware of the fact that you also had may loss 15 years ago and by that reason you are educating small investors like us with huge profits which we would have never made without your help. Where as reply on this update it was just a miss by one month which will be 100% taken as a very good lesson to we all investors and with positive hope may reach desired target in 2-3 years from now
What every has happened to solar sector, one thing is 100% sure that co has good assets and ready setup for doing business when good time starts for local co. which will soon reflect on books and stock price am I true mam?

    1. Yes, Surana Solar is still posting positive results and debt level is low. Its new plant is equipped with latest technology manufacturing machines. It will not take much time to achieve 300% target once business condition becomes favourable but in current situation it is definitely struggling hard.

  9. Thanks mam for your update with valuable inputs.
All readers, I want to give my exp as I hope this is the best time. Three years back, I bought Prakash Ind at 75. After few days, it went to around 120. Then due to Govt policies of cancellation of Mining blocks, it came down to around 20. Due to lack of funds I haven't added more but later added few at 50. Now it is quoting at around 115. So, if the a company has strong fundamentals, it may struggle few years due to bad environments but sure it returns good yields. I am still holding Prakash Ind.
I hope same get repeat for Surana Solar as well. My average price for surana is ~21 and <10% allocation. Two days back I added few at 17.5 with minor investment.

I really got lot of confident and trust on this blog. Just 1 stock which is giving negative return does not bother me at all as all other stocks gained lot which I might have not found without this blog.

    1. You can continue to hold as it is. I have given the option to swap because no guidelines or timeline are given by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for any change in solar policy. It may take further 2-3 years or longer. It will be very tough for new investors to hold it for long period in loss especially if he has bought at higher price or given higher allocation.

  30. Dear Mam,

I have very recently started investing directly in stock market. My experience with stock market till now has been only through mutual fund SIPs. I came to know about you very recently from one of my colleagues. I have read through all your blogs published in 2016 and 2017 and really amazed the way you analyze and recommend stocks.

Since I have started just recently, I have missed out investing on your recent recommendations (Like ADF Foods, Omkar, KPC and Keshoram). Kindly advise would be right decision on my part to enter ADF Foods and Omkar Speciality Chemicals at current levels. I plan to stay invested for minimum 18 months.

I have two questions your inputs would be helpful.

    1. After going through all the link provided in the post, can you please let me know if Surana and Ujaas are operating in the same model of operation within the solar sector as I find Ujaas to be more confident than Surana(from the interview available in public forum)

    2. I haven't bought Omkar shares as I was a late entrant in the blog, can i buy lasa shares on the day of listing and what would be a reasonable price to enter.

  40. Surana Solar! I remember buying 20000 shares at average price 24 somewhere in June 2016, it had corrected to 20 Rs on Brexit day, but soon it jumped to 26 where i sold all the shares and it went up to 30+. Around same time the CMD of Surana Solar had mentioned in one of his interviews that the company is depending on exports for revenue and profits and Indian market is not at all business friendly due to Chinese competition. 'China' word rang a bell in my mind and i started researching only to find out the situation is very grave and Power and Finance ministry although realize the pain for local manufacturers would not put any anti dumping duty on China imports due to low prices with better quality from imports. Indian manufacturers dont have the scale nor the quality compared to China as the raw material for solar modules itself comes from China. Lastly, the cost of borrowings for Indian manufacturers are higher compared to its Chinese competitors. I decided to stay away from Surana Solar unless change in fundamentals. I realize that some may find i am trying to sound smart here, but i thought of sharing this experience only because each one of us also need to do good research and follow up on their investments periodically.
I cannot find words to exactly convey my heartfelt thanks to Dolly Ma'am. I have been a fan of Aamir Khan, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, and my teacher Prof. Varghese for life learnings. Dolly Ma'am is now a part of these idols. One common factor among all these greats is that they are very good at what they do and are great leaders but on the other hand are very humble, never blow their own trumpet, share knowledge and always go for excellence. Salute you Ma'am.

      1) It may be possible that investors have already got enough good experience to control their patience in last 18 months with Surana Solar.

      2) They may have bought at higher price and given more than 10% allocation to Surana Solar.

In such a scenario, defense manufacturing will surely come to some local players.

Which company according to you will be major beneficiary of this?
I was checking a company called
Kalyani Strategic System which is not listed year but is a good one.

Would it be beneficial reading CFA curriculum books?
